Phase 1 involves the installation of a 10MW solar farm to provide power to elementary schools in disadvantaged communities in the Alton School District 11 and to the Alton Steel plant, which also lies in a disadvantaged community. Phase1 incudes a workforce development component, which will equip residents with the skills needed for Phase 1 and Phases 2 and 3.
Application to the EPA Community Change Grant Program has been submitted for Phase1.
Phase 2 involves the decarbonization of the Alton Steel plant. This requires the production of clean hydrogen and oxygen, which will be produced by a near site electrolyser facility, that will be built to supply Alton Steel. Energy efficiency upgrades will also reduce the overall emissions at Alton Steel.
Application to the DOE 48c Program has been submitted for Phase2.
Phase 3 involves the installation of a 100 ton per day biofuel plant that converts organic waste such as wood chips, agricultural residue, algae, and municipal solid waste to bio-fuel. The plant can produce SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel), gasoline and diesel which will lead to a reduction in GHG emissions, cleaner air quality and reduction in hazardous chemicals associated with fossil fuels.
